Emirates suspends Nigeria flights for 10 days

Emirates has halted all travel to and from Nigeria as of Thursday for ten days.

The airline operating in Dubai claims it has been unable to get money back to its home nation in West Africa.

At 00:00 local time on Wednesday, the final Emirates flight departed Lagos. Passengers can change their plans or make alternate travel arrangements, according to the airline.

Before the suspension, the airline had cut the number of weekly flights to Nigeria from 11 to 7.

It had previously stated that it would suspend operations starting on September 1 to "prevent future losses and impact on our operating expense."

They are owed $85 million ($73 million) in ticket revenue by the government.

To avoid a crisis in the aviation industry, the Central Bank of Nigeria granted $265 million to local airlines last week.

It has been challenging for the bank to pay off the loan because of the currency shortage.

British Airways has also cut back on its flights due to financial difficulties.

Due to poor demand, American airline Delta has also canceled its service to the country of West Africa.
