Sunyani Municipal Health Insurance Authority paid a visit to the Municipal Hospital and the Bono Regional Hospital unannounced over informant's complaints of extortion.

The Sunyani Municipal Health Insurance Manager Mr Maxwell Mahama together with his staff paid an unannounced visit to the Sunyani Municipal and the Bono Regional Hospital following allegations of some patients paying money for services the scheme takes care of.

Mr Maxwell Mahama, the Municipal Health Insurance Manager and his staff stormed the Sunyani Municipal Hospital OPD where the dentist there was charging GHC.100.00 for filling of teeth which are covered by the Scheme.

When the team got to the ANC, women undergoing treatment were been charged GHC.1.for vital sign check and the receptacle for urine sample was been sold to them for GHC.1 and Ghc.2.

When the Hospital Administrator and leadership of the Hospital enquired, they denied knowledge of the money been taken at the dental and the ANC departments, hence promise to investigate the matter.

Speaking in an interview with the Sunyani Municipal health Insurance Manager, Mr Maxwell Mahama said an informant who is a pregnant woman known as Madam Fati covered with Health Insurance went to the facility for delivery and was sent unofficially to the Owusu Memorial Hospital also Known as “Akyereko” to have a CS which she will be charged Ghc. 1000.00.

She was then diverted to the Regional Hospital to be delivered at a cost of GHC.900.00 prompting them for the unannounced visit to the facilities.

Mr Mahama however called on registered members of the scheme to report any inconveniences they encounter to the scheme as he lauded the whistleblower, Madam Fati for reporting the incident to the scheme. 

He also charged the various facilities working with the Health insurance to desist from the act which doesn’t encourage others to join the scheme.
