Government urged to support Private Universities over negative impact of COVID-19 pandemic

Pastor Professor William Koomson, acting Vice-Chancellor of Valley View University (VVU) has revealed that the novel COVID-19 pandemic and current Global economic crisis have brought dire consequences on Private Universities in Ghana as they are recording declining enrolment which would subsequently affect their finances and therefore require Government's intervention.

He has however advised Managements of various Private Universities to tailor out pragmatic measures to ease the burden on already suffering Students, especially in areas of feed payments, and also introduce more attractive online courses or programs that are less costly and have become the order of the day after the COVID-19 era.

Prof. Koomson spoke in an exclusive interview with media practitioners in Techiman the Bono East Regional capital during the 27th Matriculation Ceremony of Valley View University to induct 510 students comprising 221 females and 289 males which is the lowest number of admissions in recent times.

On the part of Professor Emmanuel B. Amponsah,  Rector in charge of VVU-Techiman Campus, he called on Government to make it a policy to support Private Universities in the country, especially Christian Institutions established purposely not to make a profit as the COVID-19 pandemic has seriously affected them financially.

Finally, some Students who were Matriculated shared their joy to join Ghana’s premier private university.
