The Minister of Information, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has cautioned Ghanaians who frown on the COVID-19 protocols to cease the act and continue to take measures seriously to prevent the numbers from escalating.

Ghana’s active cases as of Tuesday, September 8, 2020, is 831.

45,012 cases have so far been recorded with the COVID-19 related death toll currently at 283.

The Minister assured that although government is doing its best to handle cases yet individuals must comport themselves by observing the measures put in place to avert putting others at risk.

“Some Ghanaians have taken things for granted. The president in his last address called on us to continue to observe the preventing etiquette. Much as we express that concern, we also commend the general populace, i.e. stakeholders, the medical community, parents security agencies, etc who have supported the government’s effort so far.

“We’ll continue to provide adequate care for them and encourage persons to conduct themselves in a manner that they also do not become new cases that would escalate our current case count,” he added.

Ghana’s COVID-19 recovery cases hang at 43,898 out of the recorded 45,012, a convincing number which defines how successful situations are been handled by the various stakeholders. At a press briefing at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah extolled Ghanaians and the various stakeholders' efforts to curtail the spread of the virus.

He called on citizens to back the government’s five-pack strategy initiation – limit the importation of cases, contain the spread of cases, Provide adequate care for those who have contracted the virus, Limit the socio-economic impact and produce logistics locally now that global logistics are in short supply - to be able to quench the sweep of coronavirus.

“The government of Ghana commends the general public and all stakeholders who have played various roles in the COVID 19 fight and has helped us achieve the current level of success.

“It would be recalled that from March 12, 2020, Ghana started recording COVID 19 case, and since, the government of Ghana under the leadership of Akufo Addo has been hands-on in urging all stakeholders to support Ghana five-pack strategy.

“The president of Ghana under the leadership of President Akufo Addo has worked tirelessly to rally all Ghanaians behind the flag and the national agenda through regular engagements by the president himself on selected Sundays and government’s communications machinery on Tuesdays and Thursdays

“We are pleased that majority of Ghanaians have supported our efforts and have played various roles in helping us attain the levels of success that we are attaining currently,” he said.

He further asserted that although certain people for political interest ill-advised Ghanaians to act against the government’s COVID-19 decisions yet the populace separated partisan agenda from national interests and supported the fight against the novel pandemic, a certitude that has seen the ease of restrictions, which will soon welcome normalcy.

He spoke that an agenda was introduced to encourage parents to ignore their wards from school initially when cases were recorded on campuses, an attempt to dispute the official data to call into question the testing protocols and the entire government response.

The Minister of Information maintained that the populace calm during the opening of schools and registering of cases is evident that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has well fought out strategies in handling COVID 19 cases

“There has been the few who for parochial political interest have always sought to undermine the government effort contrary to their attempt to always discourage people from following the government’s lead and its laid down approach, and their effort to always bastardize every step that Ghana has taken so far.

“We observe that stakeholders have shown support and resilience and good judgments. As we have gradually commenced easing some of the restrictions, Ghanaians have not responded to the scaremongering and other undermining tactics aimed at undermining the government’s efforts.”
