Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has referred to an alleged case of "the Responsibility of Frequency allocation should not be done by the Executive."

Minority in Parliament has thrown their weight behind the National Media Commission to be independently acknowledged with the power they deserve in order to promote higher journalistic standards, among others.

In a presentation by the Minority at the ongoing engagement by Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, with expanded leadership of Parliament and National Media Commission( NMC), they argued that the allocation of frequencies must be given to the NMC, and not the National Communication Authority( NCA), Ministry of Communication or the executive.

According to the Deputy Minority Whip and MP for Banda, Ahmed  Ibrahim, who made the presentation on behalf of the minority leader, Haruna Iddirisu argued that, if the allocation of frequencies were supposed to be exercised by the National Media Commission, statements like what was speculated during the closed down of some media stations wouldn’t have come from the public.

Speaking on the 2022 budget which is expected to be presented in November by the Finance Minister, the legislator made a case, yet was quick to assure NMC that Members of Parliament are ever ready to support them whenever it becomes necessary for the discussion on their “independency” come before the house.
