Sokpoe Paramount chief outlines measures for gvt to mitigate future disasters Torgbega Kadzi Zogah II, Paramount chief of Sokpoe within the South Tongu of the Volta Region, has outlined a-5 point measures to mitigate future disasters in the area.

Those measures,according to him, must be prioritized by government in the prevention of future occurrences.

The Paramount chief made the appeal over the weekend at the 38th Tortsogbeza grand durbur of chiefs and the people of Sokpoe. He mentioned infrastructure improvements as crucial in preventing future disasters.

According to him, dredging and constructing concrete drains on the several canals to create resilience in order to withstand the forces of nature in safeguarding homes, livelihoods, and future generations. He also urged government to put in place disasters preparedness and response measures to effectively deal with future flood occurrences.

"We need timely assistance and support for affected communities to minimize the impact of disasters and ensure the swift recovery of those in need",he added.

Torgbega Kadzi Zogah further appealed for dredging of the Lower Volta River to increase the river's water-holding capacity in a bid to reduce the risk of overflow during heavy rainfall and spillage.

The Paramount chief noted that there is urgent need for effective collaborations between government, local communities and relevant stakeholders in the development of comprehensive and sustainable solutions to address the challenges posed by dam spillage and its consequences.

Lastly,he appealed for equitable compensation and support for the flood victims in a bid to alleviate the plight of the suffering victims.
