”Serving you is my priority” - embattled Assin North MP tells constituents as he donates 1,200 LED street lights

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North Constituency in the Central Region, James Gyakye Quayson, has vowed to fulfil the promises he made to his constituents in the wake up to the 2020 elections despite a court case challenging his Ghanaian citizenship.

The MP who is also a member of the Local Government committee in parliament as part of his promise to protect lives and properties in his constituency donated one thousand two hundred (1,200) LED street light bulbs to beef up security in the communities of Assin North district.

He has thus labelled the initiative "Brightening Every Corner of Assin North"

Speaking to the press after a grand durbar to unveil the street lights, Mr Quayson, hinted that he will make sure that the challenges facing the people of Assin North are giving the needed attention despite the court case challenging his nationality.

“Let me assure you that, I, James Quayson, came here to serve and not to make wealth. I will give every penny I get back to you and will never rest until the problems confronting our district are resolved in any way possible,” he said.

Adding that the donation and any other donations in the past since he became a Member of Parliament is part of his obligations that seeks to address the welfare of his people.

He thus called on his constituents to lend him their unflinching support as has always been in the past during these challenging times. 

“Even though I believe my detractors don’t have a case, I believe it is delaying development here and that is why I will need your prayers and support to sail through these challenging times,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nana Kotroka Frimpong Baah II, Tufohene of Assin Breku who doubles as the Acting Chief of Breku admonished all parties in the case to think of the development of the people of Assin.

According to him, even though there is a remarkable change in the quality of leadership the people of Assin North have enjoyed, more would have been achieved if the MP is not facing any legal suit. 

He said, “I have seen a great change since you became MP and I believe you can do more if not for this entangling thread strangling your neck.” ( the court case).

On his part, the Deputy Coordinating Director crowned the short but colourful ceremony on behalf of the District Chief Executive of Assin North, Honourable Charles Ohene Andoh calling for unity amongst political parties in Assin North said the Assin District Assembly is ever ready to offer their unflinching support to Honourable James Gyakye Quayson so as long as development is concerned.

He however eulogized the MP for his benevolent gesture saying the street lights will help curb criminal activities within the district. 

He, therefore, appealed to the Assembly Members who received the lights on behalf of their respective electoral areas to utilize them judiciously to achieve its intended purpose.
