Security is a shared responsibility - Expert
Ransford Anokye

Author of a book on security titled "security tips for everyday living" has stressed the need for Ghanaians to take into their own hands their personal security in an era where crime is high.

According to the author of the book, Ransford Anokye security is a shared responsibility hence the need to be one another's keeper adding that the recent terrorism threats at the boaders especially at the northern part of the country should be monitored.

He noted that it is paramount on the part od government to begin severe sensitization at our boarders to conscientize Ghanaian on what to look out for if they suspect anyone of terrorism threats.

Quiet apart from security in our day to day activities there is also the need for us to be security cautious espacially at our various home.

"People are of the view that Ghana is safe and for that matter they don't take their security into their own hands, but once we move in our homes and other place we should be security conscious and save the police some problem. That is why as a writer I taught of coming up with this book to educate the general public.

The content of the book talks about security when using the ATM, security at your work place, in the market, in the hospital and even dealing with people who are sick.

Things go and come back so when someone is sick you know the steps to take in order to ensure that  you are safe"Author of the book Ransford Anokye Ayim told Journalist in Winneba.

According to Ransford Anyim, it is urgent that the study of security is put into the curriculum of students to give teachers the opportunity to teach students at the basic levels through to the university.

"What we all need is education and we are not doing enough to sensitize our people. Once the education is not going on people will think they can take the laws into theor own hands and do whatever they want.

But once we are educated, it makes us aware of some of the things we need to do in order to be safe. Government is doing its best but if they infuse this into the curriculum I think children will be conscious enough and this will help make the work of our security personnel easier"the author added.

The author believes if security is infused into out curriculum from the basic level to the university level the series of violent happenings at our universities like the clashes between halls will be averted.

Citing the issues of violence in the universities Ransford noted that the study of security will prompt us that students must be made to sign legal bonds such that if anything happens they can be sent away and their records sent to other schools to prevent them from repeating same. He added that dismissing hall masters in such situations is not the solution.

"If we are allowed to study security through our educational ranks can help solve clashes in our various universities like the happenings at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

Security will tell us that students in the schools will be made to sign bonds such that when they are caught in violent act, their records are sent to other sister universities and this means they cannot go to any university to do same. Dismissing hall masters is not the solution but setting systems that expose offenders.

That is why I have written security tips for everyday living to sensitize readers"Ransford Ayim noted.

The launch of the book was done at the campus of the University of Education, Winneba with a call of Ghanaians to actively participate in creating awareness of our security to ensure that we are  safe wher ever we go.
