Sipho Dlamini has hailed Shatta Wale and Sarkodie for their impact on the international music scene.

The Universal Music South Africa CEO said this while highlighting artistes that should be recognised outside of Nigeria and Kenya.

“I’d definitely say Ghana, for one, partly because there is such a strong Ghanaian diaspora population in the UK and beyond – and they’re also very passionate and very dynamic in the music and in their sound,” shared Dlamini in a new interview with MusicBusinessWorldwide.

“Fuse ODG has nearly 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify – that’s significant. Other Ghanaian artists like Sarkodie and Stonebwoy are also doing amazing things and getting recognition and support in other markets

Sipho Dlamini has just recently been promoted to the position of Chief Executive officer of Universal Music South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa on the 5th of January, 2021.

He previously served as managing director over the African subsidiaries.

“There has never been a more exciting time for African music around the world, as it continues to influence and inspire culture and creativity, whilst reaching a wider audience globally each day through streaming."

"I am delighted to welcome both Elouise and Chin to the UMG family, their unique skills and experiences will only help to further establish UMG as a bedrock within the African music community, that will continue to put the interests and opportunities for artists first and help elevate African talent to new levels of success at home and abroad,” remarked Dlamini.
