Ruling party takes early lead in Angolan elections

According to preliminary results from Wednesday's presidential and parliamentary elections, Angola's electoral commission reports that the MPLA, the country's current government, has a significant lead.

According to the commission, President Joao Lourenço's party has garnered more than 60% of the vote with only a third of the ballots counted.

Unita, a former rebel group now in the opposition, has over 34%.

The provisional results have been deemed untrustworthy by Unita.
