In the Democratic Republic of Congo, a Christian congregation celebrates Christmas Day.

On Wednesday, a Christian congregation primarily centered in the Democratic Republic of Congo will honor the birth of Jesus by celebrating Christmas Day.

His Special Envoy Simon Kimbangu's Church of Jesus Christ on Earth claims about 20 million followers in the country, as well as in neighboring Angola.

It's also known as the Simon Kimbanguist Church after its founder.

For theological issues, the church was suspended from the World Council of Churches last year.

Since 2016, the church has observed Christmas Day on May 25th by their interpretation of the Bible.

Mr. Kimbangu was sentenced to death for sedition in 1921 and died in prison after spending nearly 30 years.

He perished in the Kasombo prison in Lubumbashi's southern city of Élisabethville.

He was said to have become unwell in prison and was sent to the hospital, where he died.
