Referendum on Biden's first two years

The party in power frequently suffers in midterm elections, which are typically considered referendums on the first two years of a president's four-year tenure.

Joe Biden's approval rating has been dismal for more than a year, and many voters attribute this to high inflation and financial woes. (It should be noted, however, that a president has limited short-term options for addressing excessive inflation.)

Biden has pushed through a variety of new laws on climate change, gun control, and infrastructure investment in his first two years in office.

However, a Reuters/Ipsos poll issued on October 18 found that around one in three Americans continues to see the economy as the nation's largest issue.

Only 40% of respondents thought Biden did a good job.

Additionally, if the Republicans take over one of the two chambers of Congress, they will have the power to stop Democratic bills from passing and hinder Biden from achieving many of his policy objectives.

This could make matters worse for his approval ratings.
