The Race Course Market Project will be named after Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom as revealed by the Chaplain for the Project, Bishop Nana Bugyei.

1480 lockable shops have so far been completed to accommodate traders who were evacuated from the Central market due to ongoing works. The chairman of the project, Kwabena Frimpong aka MK assured that by the end of July, marketers will be finally moved to the new venue to commence business.

Bishop Nana Bugyei speaking to Soireenews correspondent, Isaac Owusu said the decision to name the place after the Queen mother of the Asante Kingdom has been endorsed by the Overlord of Asanteman, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and permission has been granted for the advantage.

“We have spoken to Otumfuo that we want to name the market after Nana Konadu Yiadom,” he told.

“It will be the official name for the market and it has been endorsed by Otumfuo. Soon billboards will be mounted to officially make the place known.”

He accounted that putting up such a community of trade at Racecourse demanded a lot of resources and finances surpassing the monies paid by market women to put the place up. He revealed that loans were acquired by the chairman to continue with furnishing and although there is a cost to settle, yet they will not obstruct traders with other charges but will seek amicable ways to settle it with them.

“We have incurred a lot of costs. The chairman has been very immense in the buildup of this place. Monies taken from the traders was not enough and the chairman had to take a loan from other avenues.

“We just don’t want to bother the traders with other costs. When they move in and they get to see the monies that have gone in, they can help us settle that debt.

“We cannot heap everything on the government due to other projects it is embarking on. This is our own asset and it is all for the best of Asanteman.”
