Refuse Dump

Residents of Shishegu in the Sagnarigu Municipality are appealing to the authorities to assist them with dustbins to dump their refuse.

The heap of waste is very close to the abattoir and houses yet several complaints to authorities have been left unheeded and the current situation has put fears of a possible cholera outbreak in the area if immediate action is not taken.

Traders and residents around the place affirmed that a collection of waste from waste containers in the area has been a challenge for some time now.

According to them, they, always battle with unbearable stench and the breed of mosquitoes from the overflowing waste container, situated few metres from their trading area and their place of stay. They have the fear of a possible outbreak of cholera if authorities fail to collect the waste from the containers.

"We spend most of our time here because this is where we get our daily income but the sanitation condition here is posing a serious health risk to us. Most of us often complaint of malaria"

They have pointed fingers at the Municipal Assembly for failing to collect the waste, following appeals to authorities to evacuate it as a matter of urgency.

The Assembly Member of the community, Yahaya Yussif said, Zoomlion has been contracted to empty the waste around refusal led to a purchase of refuse bins by the assembly without the notice of Zoomlion.

He explained that the waste company has refused to pick up the container because they claim the bins are not theirs, furthermore, the Assembly does not pay them for the services.

He has therefore appealed to the authorities to pick up that container and clear the place for them.
