The handwashing in schools with soap could substantially reduce diarrhea and respiratory infections among school-age children, the Extension Services Coordinator of Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Mrs.  Theodora Adomako-Adjei had stated.

Following this development, she called on the pupils to practice handwashing for healthy and dignified living, adding that handwashing with soap is life-saving.

Mr Adomako-Adjei made the foregoing call during the handwashing competition organized by stakeholders in Ghana's Water Sanitation and Hygiene.(WASH) sector for schools held at the KO Methodist Basic Schools at Ashtown near Kejetia in Kumasi on Friday.

The competition held a day to the 2022 Global Handwashing Day celebration, was to sensitize school children, teachers and workers  in schools in the Kumasi Metropolis about the importance of handwashing for healthy and dignified living.
Various groups participating in the competition used theirskills in the installation of Tipy-taps, drawing, colouring and beadmaking in selected colours to demonstrate their understanding of handwashing and hygiene.
The Extension Services Coordinator of Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Mrs Theodora Adomako-Adjei, led representatives of the stakeholder organizations to demonstrate to, and guide the school children the proper ways of handwashing.

"We always need to wash our hands properly with soap under clean running water to enjoy healthy and dignified living," Mrs. Adomako-Adjei told the school children.
Children who  answered oral questions correctly won Sato-taps to use at home and in school for handwashing.

Participating schools include KO Primary A, KO Primary B, St. Louis Junior High, Afi Kobi Basic Schools, among others.
