President Akufo-Addo To Commission Sunyani Airport Tomorrow 3rd August, 2022

President Akufo-Addo is expected today Wednesday, 3rd August 2022 to commission the rehabilitated Sunyani Airport.

The Sunyani Airport was shut down in March 2015 after the runway developed many challenges which were not conducive for flight traffic.

The rehabilitation works began in February 2019 and were delayed because of the outbreak of COVID-19.

The cost for rehabilitation of the first phase of the airport was 50 million Ghana cedis. DAA Construction Limited was contracted to construct the walls around the airport and Resources Access Limited also constructed the runway. 

The runway was 1,280 meters and has been extended to 1,400 meters pave way for aircraft to make good use of the airport to boost the domestic economic air traveling benefits within the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions.

The Managing Director of the Ghana Airport Company Limited, Pamela Djamson-Tettey has indicated that the completion of rehabilitation works will go a long way to help generate income for the country.

The Minister of Transport, Honourable Kwaku Ofori Asiamah together with both the Members of Parliament of Sunyani East and West, Honourable Kyeremeh and Honourable Ignatius Baffour Awuah, the Bono Regional Minister, Madam Awo Banahene, Bono Regional NPP Chairman, Kwame Baffoe Abronye DC inspected the project some two weeks ago paving way for the President Nana Akufo Addo to commission the first phase of the airport.
