Policeman Killed In Ghastly Shooting Spree At Obuasi

A policeman has been killed in a ghastly shooting spree with armed robbers at Nyankomaso, of the Adansi Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti Region.

In the early hours of Tuesday, January 19, 2021, Martin Baba, a policeman with number 51799, met his untimely death after engaging in a shooting spree with armed robbers.

The security officer was on duty with a Bullion Van which transporting money from the Ghana Commercial Bank, Dunkwa on his way to New Edubiase.

According to eye witness reports, the armed robbers within the ages of 16-25, stood in the way of the van, shot the police and two others with him and made away with the over GH₵1m.

The other two, a female and a male, however, sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to the Anglogold Ashanti Hospital at Obuasi. According to reports, they will be transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi due to the severity of their injuries.

On September 28 last year, the governor of Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison revealed in a news conference that the Central Bank will resort to using helicopters to transport money as the attacks on bullion vans were becoming rampant.

The demise of the Policeman makes it four death four in Obuasi and it's environs through thugs and armed robbery activities in the last three days.
