Over a fugitive Malawi pastor, a SA official was sacked.

A South African official who gave notorious Malawian pastor Shepherd Bushiri permanent residency status has been fired.

After a nearly year-long disciplinary process, he was fired.

The home affairs department said Ronney Marhule was found guilty of wrongdoing and non-compliance with immigration laws for providing licenses to Mr. Bushiri's family that "they did not merit."

Local media quotes Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi as saying, "The conclusion of this disciplinary process is bringing us closer to ensuring that we bring to a stop irregular activities and decisions by home affairs employees within the system."

Bushiri, a self-described "prophet," and his wife Mary were charged with fraud in South Africa but were granted bail and escaped to Malawi.

In Malawi, an arrest warrant has been issued, and extradition processes are underway.
