A couple in India is suing their son for not providing them with a grandchild.

After six years of marriage, a couple in Uttarakhand, India, issued their sole son and his wife for failing to provide them with a grandchild.

Sanjeev and Sadhana Prasad, 61 and 57, claim they spent all of their savings on their son, including his pilot training and a luxurious wedding.

They want approximately $650,000 (£525,000) in compensation if no grandchild is born within a year.

Their son and his wife don't seem to have said anything.

The complaint was brought on the grounds of "mental harassment."

Mr. Prasad claimed he had spent all of his funds on his son, paying $65,000 to send him to the United States for flight training in 2006.

He returned to India in 2007, but lost his job, forcing his family to financially support him for more than two years, according to the Times of India.

Shrey Sagar, 35, did acquire a job as a pilot in the end. In 2016, his parents organized his marriage to Shubhangi Sinha, aged 31, in the hopes of having a "grandchild to play with" during their retirement.

The parents claim they paid for a five-star wedding reception, an $80,000 luxury automobile, and a honeymoon abroad.

Mr. Prasad added, "My son has been married for six years and they are still not planning a baby." "At the very least, having a grandchild to spend time with will make our pain bearable."

The pair requested the money "because of mental cruelty," according to the couple's lawyer, AK Srivastava.

"Every parent wishes to become a grandfather or grandmother. They had been looking forward to being grandparents for years."

A court will hear the couple's plea, which was filed in Haridwar, on May 17.
