The terrible state of infrastructure at the Asekantia Basic School, a basic school in the Ahafo Ano South West District of the Ashanti Region is affecting effective schooling and learning. 

The school which was built some 75 years ago has not seen any major renovation for the past decades, a situation which is a worry to both teachers and residents. .

Speaking to inhabitants in the community they said, disaster can befall the school if swift intervention does not take place.

Currently, there are only two teachers left in the school who takes care of the entire students through the various subjects which is a major task pending a Swift intervention. 

An investigation by Soireenews disclosed that, behind the deplorable state of the school building, there is ongoing illegal mining known as (galamsay). Their activities are carried out in the late hours which makes descending on them very difficult.

Meanwhile, the Assemblymember for the area Honourable Francis Kwao says he has several times fought for the construction of the school but to no avail.

Adding that discussions have been held with the authority to intervene but the situation is yet to be solved.

The residents are however pleading with the government, 

Philanthropists and Nongovernmental Organizations (NGOs) to assist curb the situation to avert unforeseen circumstances.
