The high tension electric cables meant for the electrification project to connect the Ayermasu community and its environs in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region has been abandoned in a bush to rot.

The project which was under the Rural Electrification Project, have been abandoned and all the cables are rotting in the bush for more than two years now without its continuity of the project.

The objective of the Rural Electrification Project is to scale up access to electricity services for rural households, aid posts and communities located in dispersed off-grid areas.

The Assemblyman for Ayermasu electoral area, Mr Amoah Emmanuel, in an interview with William Ofori Akwaboa, soiree News Correspondent opined that it has been two years since the electrical cables meant for powering Ayermasu and its environs communities to help the schools in the communities for the effective teaching and learning of ICT, but sadly,  have been left to rot in the bush.

He lamented that he has raised concerns about the situation several times at the Assembly meetings in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal, but all have fallen into a deaf ear.

"The local authorities have severely stated many times that the contractor will be back to the site to continue the project and all the promises to fix the challenge have proved futile".

Honourable  Amoah revealed, "that even thieves were able to take away some of the abandoned aluminium cables six months ago" and no arrest has been made.

He emphasized, it was the intervention of some youth in the community, who were hunting for snails at night, to raise an alarm over said high tension cables to save the remaining from being stolen".

We planned to send these cables to a safekeeping at the chief palace but it is too heavy to be transported and without immediate intervention to salvage the items, thieves may come for it before the project continues.

Additionally, all letters were written to the Municipal Chief Executive of Lower Manya Krobo, Honourable Simon Kwaku Tetteh, to come to our aid did not yield any results after his assurances to help power the community.

"The Assemblymember bemoaned that the schools in his electoral area are facing a huge challenge to learn ICT without electricity power and it is important for the municipality to connect Ayermasu and its environs to the national grid for effective teaching and learning".
