Three women have been picked up by the Obuasi police Command for trading in counterfeit.

The suspects who hail from Kumasi were arrested after an attempt to dupe a mobile money vendor at Sanso, a community in the Obuasi municipal assembly triggered.


The suspects who are identified as Maame, Afrakoma, and Ceci ages between 25 and 37 hails from Kumasi Atonsu in the Ashanti region.


Afrakoma, a nursing mother, admitted the alleged crime committed but asked for forgiveness from the mob who Arrested them. She disclosed that they work under percentage terms with a man based in Kumasi. She continued that, they earn 500 ghana cedis from any 2,000 ghana cedis counterfeit they are able to replace with genuine cash.


Both of the three arrested people were holding handbags that contains ladies' attire and 100 cedis counterfeit notes covered with baby diapers.


Maame Adwoa, an eyewitness accounting to soireenews indicated that the suspects were arrested on January 30, around 6:30 pm and we were sent to the Obuasi central police station around 11 pm the same day.

"It took reinforcement team together with the dispatched team to rescue them from the mob Maame Adwoa said". 

They were able to dupe two vendors with an amount of 1,500 ghana cedis each.

Currently, the suspects are in police custody and will be arraigned before the court in the due time the police said.

Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for the alleged occupant.
