Nyamekrom Residents Block Road To Protest Against Bad Roads, Gives Government one Month Ultimatum. 

An angry resident of Nyamekrom has blocked their roads to protest over the deplorable nature of their roads as well as the development of gulleys around the just completed Nyamekrom bridge which is making it difficult for drivers and commuters to ply the road.

The convener of the protesters, Mr. Desmond Ameyaw accused the contractor of what he described as shoddy work regarding the construction of the bridge, after one week that the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South Constituency Honourable Okyere Baafi commissioned the bridge, the recent rains have created gulleys which have almost strip off the soil cover on and around the bridge making it uneasy for vehicles to move through the bridge.

He further highlighted that due to the bad nature of the road drivers charge passengers extra fares for their transportation aside from the normal fares, adding that, there have been many incidences of miscarriages in the Nyamekrom township over a bad road.

According to the angry residents, they have warned that if the government fails to heed their concerns, there will not allow any politician to enter the Nyamekrom township at any given time as they prepare to organize another big demonstration in the coming days to fight for their grievances.

The Assembly Member for Nyamekrom electoral area, Honourable Enoch Boahen who was not satisfied with the work done on the road and the bridge revealed that work has slowed down on the road due to lack of funds according to the contractor, hence he urged the government to release funds to support the contractor to complete their roads for them.

The spokesperson for the Chief of Nyamekrom, Mr. Augustine Afum Odame also lamented that Nyamekrom has been neglected for too long and therefore requested that their roads should be constructed for them immediately since they have suffered on the road a lot.
