A fatal anthrax outbreak has caused the slaughter, sale, and consumption of meat in a northern Ghanaian region to be outlawed for one month.

 Animals can contract the highly contagious bacterial illness anthrax, which can also infect humans.

In order to stop the disease from spreading, the Upper East Region has also barred the transportation of animals such cows, sheep, goats, pigs, and donkeys.

13 suspected cases have been found, and one individual has already passed away.

They may have consumed steak that was contaminated with anthrax. According to reports, anthrax has claimed at least 30 animal lives.

As part of increased attempts to stop the disease's spread, doctors are tracking down the contacts of those who have been afflicted and providing free vaccinations for animals.
