Nine Galamseyers Busted From Operators  On River Offin In Atwima Mponua District-DCE Reveals

Officials of the Forestry Commission (FC), were on Sunday August 14, 2022 have arrested nine persons who were allegedly engaged in illegal mining activities on River Offin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

Officials of the Forestry Commission (FC), were on Sunday August 14, 2022 have arrested nine persons who were allegedly engaged in illegal mining activities on River Offin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
Forestry Commission guards with the instrumentality District Chief Executive (DCE) of Atwima Mponua District Assembly Honorable Isaac Kofi Marfo on Sunday, moved to the River Offin water bodies where the nine miners were encroaching.
The nine persons who were arrested have been identified as  Kwadwo Bosompem 30, Doga Etse 31,Winner Soyi 25,Noah Baba 22, Ayettey Anaglo 38, Collins True 24, Amanuve Kpaleba 22, Bandim Andrews 42 and Winfred Nyatorwunu 33.

The DCE who confirmed the arrest of the nine persons noted that suspects were in the custody of the police, saying that they would be soon arraigned before court.
According to the DCE, several barrels of diesel, boats, Chamfan generator and other mining equipment worth thousands of Ghana Cedis have been seized from illegal miners popularly known as galamsey on the River Offin enclave.
He indicated that the current arrest of these persons was part of his daily routine to clamp down the activities of illegal mining in the catchment areas.
