Nigeria confirms death of a top militia leader

An important militia leader was killed during a shootout with the army on Sunday, according to the Kaduna state authorities in Nigeria's northwest.

Kachalla Gudau was one of many gunmen murdered when they attacked a military base, according to a spokesman for the state government.

He is reported to have carried out numerous murders, kidnappings, and operations involving illegal substances.

It happened at the same time that the Nigerian Air Force said that it had killed a large number of bandits during airstrikes on their hideouts in various sites throughout the state.

With only three months until Nigeria's presidential election, security forces seem to have intensified their operations against alleged gangs.
