NIBS University Celebrates Class of 2026, Launches New Research And Alumni Initiatives
The ceremony saw the graduation of students from the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), Doctor of Business Leadership (DBL), Ph.D., Master of FinTech Management and Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) programmes.
NIBS University has called on its 2026 graduating class to embrace innovation, ethical leadership, and lifelong learning as they prepare to make meaningful contributions to society.
The call was made at the university's second congregation ceremony held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at its campus in the Greater Accra Region under the theme, "Excellence Beyond Borders: Preparing Leaders for a Changing World."
The ceremony saw the graduation of students from the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), Doctor of Business Leadership (DBL), Ph.D., Master of FinTech Management and Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) programmes.
The event attracted dignitaries from the public and private sectors, members of the diplomatic and academic communities, alumni, families, and friends who gathered to celebrate the achievements of the graduates.
Delivering his address, Chancellor of NIBS University, Dr. George Nana Agyekum Donkor congratulated the Class of 2026 and described the occasion as a celebration of hard work, resilience, and academic excellence.
"It's an honour and privilege to welcome you to the second congregation ceremony of NIBS University, a day of celebration, reflection, and renewed purpose," he said.
He noted that the university continues to expand its academic programmes, strengthen research collaborations, and build partnerships that prepare students to compete globally.
Speaking on the theme, Dr. Donkor said graduates must move beyond geographical and professional boundaries by embracing innovation, critical thinking, and ethical leadership.
"Excellence beyond borders is more than a theme. It is a call to action," he stated.
He reminded the graduates that earning a degree should mark the beginning of continuous learning rather than the end of their educational journey.
"Your degree, therefore, is not the conclusion of your education, but the foundation upon which continuous growth will be built," he said.
Dr. Donkor urged the graduates to use their knowledge and skills to create opportunities, solve problems, and positively impact society.
He also announced the launch of the Alumni Club 100 and the Research Infrastructure Fund, initiatives aimed at supporting research, infrastructure development, and the university's long-term growth.
The keynote speaker and commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Dr. Joseph Akanjolenur Whittal encouraged the graduates to pursue excellence with integrity, stressing that knowledge without character could be dangerous.
"NIBS University gave me more than a certificate. It gave me a discipline of thought, a standard of rigour, and a conviction that knowledge divorced from character is a dangerous half measure," he said.
He challenged graduates to strive for excellence instead of settling for average performance.
"Not competency, not adequacy, not the minimum standard that allows one to pass exams, but excellence," he said.
Dr. Whittal further urged graduates to remain accountable and uphold ethical values throughout their careers.
"Excellence beyond borders must therefore be anchored in an unshakable personal integrity because the more capable you become, the more damage your compromises are able to do," he stated.
Speaking to the media after the ceremony, President of the NIBS University Alumni Association, Dr. Sylvester Nyamekye called on the graduates to support research and innovation as a means of addressing Ghana's development challenges.
"This initiative by the University is to get a lot of people to support research. And we know that with research, we will be able to come up with innovative solutions to resolve Ghana's unending problems," he said.
He also urged the graduates to champion environmental sustainability, noting that recent flooding in parts of Ghana demonstrated the consequences of human activities on the environment.
"Some few months ago, Ghana was ravaged by serious floods. It was due to human activity. And so we are pushing and charging the graduates to be ambassadors of the environment anywhere they find themselves. That is actually our drive as the Alumni Association," he stated.
Dr. Nyamekye further encouraged the graduates to maintain a strong relationship with the university by supporting its vision of becoming a leading centre for research and innovation across Africa.
"I advise and urge all of them to look back at NIBS University to assist the university in their quest to attain excellence in research, not only in Ghana, but across Africa and the world," he added.
The ceremony ended with the conferment of degrees and certificates, after which graduates celebrated the milestone with their families, friends, and loved ones.
