After decades without one, Sogofeme and its small quarters, under Amafu (Kplibiti) Black Stool of the Mepe Akorvie Royal Divisional Clan in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region—has finally enstooled a queen mother amidst jubilation and merrymaking.

The kingmakers and elders of Amafu (Kplibiti) Black Stool did the installation at a colourful ceremony steeped in culture and tradition, on Tuesday August 4, 2026 .

Takiing root from Mampong in the Ashanti Region, the people of the Akorvie clan (originally known as Akor) first settled at Adome and Aboabo in the Akwamu lands of the Eastern Region before establishing their final home in the Mepe Traditional Area.

Throughout this migration, it has emerged in Mepe history that the Amafu (Kplibiti) black stool is the only stool to have had an installed chief before the people came to settle at Mepe.

Since the Akor clan settled in their final home within the Mepe Traditional Area, the queen mother's position to partner the substantive Torgbe Kofi Amafu has remained vacant.

However, on Tuesday August 4, 2024 the elders and kingmakers of the Amafu (Kplibiti) black stool performed the necessary traditional rites to install a queen mother.

The private name of the queen mother, who will rule under the stool name  Serwa Yaa Boatengmaa II, is Mrs.Benedicta Peace Bubu-Egyin.

The newly-inducted Queen Mother, a Mepe citizen living in the United States of America (USA), works as a correctional officer.

The traditional occasion, greeted by the chanting of traditional songs and drumming, was witnessed by the chiefs and other queen mothers including the Paramount Queenmother of Mepe, Mamaga Adzo Sreku IV and hundreds of Mepe citizens who traveled from near and far.

Mama Serwa Yaa Boatengmaa II has the primary traditional responsibility of partnering with the warrior chief of the Mepe Traditional Area, Torgbe Kofi Amafu IV, to lobby for social protection as well as social and infrastructure development for the people in the Akorvie Royal Divisional Clan and Mepe as a whole.

She also has the responsibility of working closely with the chiefs and other queen mothers in the area to oversee the empowerment of the people, particularly women in the local areas within the Mepe enclave.

Addressing the joyful crowd at the ceremony, the beautiful queen pledged to work closely with Togbe Kofi Amafu IV, her elders, and other

traditional leaders to ensure unity, peace, and tranquility in the area.

She indicated her readiness to take active roles as a female traditional leader to advocate for youth education, women's empowerment, and community development.

She affirmed her commitment to the chiefs and people to serve her people diligently.

Mama Serwa Yaa Boatengmaa II pledged to dedicate her reign to championing girl-child education, which she described as a crucial tool for community development.

She stated that empowering young girls with knowledge and practical skills would help curb the rising cases of teenage pregnancy in the area.

“I am determined to ensure that our girls have access to both formal education and technical or vocational training.

By equipping them with the right skills, they can grow into responsible women who will play key leadership roles in society,” she said.

Serwa Yaa Boatengma further encouraged parents and guardians to prioritize the education of their daughters, noting that an educated girl has the potential to transform not only her family but the larger community.

She called on the government to support the new queen mother and the Mepe Traditional Area in their mission to bring lasting peace and development to the area.

She emphasized that collaboration between traditional leaders and state authorities was vital in addressing the community’s pressing challenges, including unemployment, a lack of infrastructure, and social vices.

She thanked God, Togbe Kofi Amafu IV, all other royal guests, the council of elders, pastors, and all persons present.

She also wanted to say thank you to everyone who worked so hard and selflessly to make sure her coronation was a success.

She expressed deep appreciation for all the encouragement, advice, and teachings, adding, "I know that I still have a lot to learn and am willing to do so."

She highlighted his vision, which focuses on developing women, youth, education, and unity.

"As Queen Mother, my stool represents a motherly heart for my community and Mepe as a whole. A mother protects, nurtures, listens, and unites."

She reaffirmed that her reign will be dedicated to empowering the youth and supporting the elderly, as well as ensuring that women and youth have the support, skills, and voice to thrive economically and socially.

She pledged her readiness to inspire young people to honor their rich culture while equipping them for the modern world.

She also assured everyone of her commitment to peace and unity, stating that she will work hand-in-hand with Torgbe Kofi Amafu IV and the Council of Elders of the Akorvie Royal Divisional Clan and chiefs of Mepe as a whole to foster peace, resolve conflicts, and promote development.

Sharing a scriptural reflection, she quoted Genesis 18:18–19 (NKJV): "Since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?

"For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him."

Finally, she expressed heartfelt appreciation to citizens, chiefs, queen mothers, and other stakeholders across all five clans of the Mepe Traditional Area for the warm wishes, prayers, support, and love shown during her enstoolment as queen of the Akorvie Royal Divisional Clan of Mepe.
