A Communication Team Member for the New Patriotic Party (NPP)  and a researcher in the Bono Region, Opoku Kyeremeh has said the new taxes which were introduced in the 2021 budget are not meant to target the vulnerable in the society.

Speaking with Kwesi Kyei Baffour on the issue on Ark Fm, monitored by SN24 News, Mr. Opoku Kyeremeh said even though Ghanaians are not happy with the decision, it’s the only option to improve the revenue of the country.

The government has introduced three levies and the decision to increase some taxes in the 2021 budget statement. The new levies include the COVID-19 health levy, petroleum levy, sanitation levy, and pollution levy.

The government has been criticized for seeking to introduce new taxes in the country.

Meanwhile, Sunyani Youth Organizer for the National Democratic Congress NDC, Vincent Antwi Adjei has described the decision as unjustifiable. According to him, the government has received enough monetary support from other countries.
