The National Democratic Congress Assembly Members in New Juaben South Municipality in Koforidua voted YES to support the Municipal Chief Executive nominee, Mr Isaac Appaw Gyasi.

Drama took over the New Juaben South Municipality in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Capital when Assembly Members perceived to be sympathetic to the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, openly showed “Yes Votes” cast for the Municipal Chief Executive nominee for New Juaben South Municipal Assembly.

Before the election, there were uncertainties following threats by some Assembly members to vote against the nominee.

Assembly members perceived to be affiliated with the NDC side shockingly showed their  “Yes” votes openly to a former Eastern Regional chairman Bismark Tawiah Boateng who was present at the venue in clear violation of secret balloting.

Mr Isaac Appaw Gyasi polled 46 out of 47 votes representing 98%.

The election held on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, was supervised by Electoral Commission led by the Regional Director Madam Faith Amedzake.

Ike Appaw Gyasi who had the nod to serve for the second term subjected to removal by the President assured that he is going to spearhead massive development in the Municipality.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong called for unity and support for the MCE to enable him to continue his executive mandate.

Some dignitaries were present to grace the occasion at the confirmation, there was the Member of Parliament for New Juaben  South and the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon Michael Kofi Baafi, Chief Director of the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council, Mr Samuel Donkor, Traditional Authorities, some Regional and Constituency Executives of the New Patriotic Party, and a former Eastern regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress Mr Tawiah Boateng.

So far, nominees for Birim South Okere District, Akyemansa, and New Juaben South have been confirmed while that of Achiase District has been rejected.

It was the second day of confirmation exercise being spearheaded by Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong the Eastern Regional Minister.
