Netflix is not receiving high-quality content from Ghanaian filmmakers – Chris Attoh

Ghana's film industry falls behind because it does not place enough emphasis on creating compelling content that would appeal to both domestic and foreign viewers.

The Tinsel Star, who hasn't yet had the premiere of his most recent film, Nine, explained in a recent sit-down interview with Graphic Showbiz that while these streaming services require high-caliber content to draw users, the nation's film industry players haven't been able to regularly produce such content.

"The quality of the content is more important than the type of content, and Ghana is not producing enough high-quality content to be able to be on these platforms. The truth is that the world, not just Ghanaians, are extremely perceptive consumers these days, so if you release anything that doesn't look decent, people will notice.Currently, South Africa and Nigeria account for the majority of the African content on Netflix. We enter the fray by ensuring that everything is done correctly.

Thus, a well-shot film like Nine ought to be able to compete with the genre of films Netflix sources from Nigeria, allowing you to find Ghanaian films on TV when you turn it on," the speaker added.

Chris emphasized that stakeholders in Ghana's film business need to reevaluate how they approach content development. In order to help the nation become more well-known in the international entertainment industry, he pushed them to concentrate on creating content that satisfies streaming platform requirements and fits in with customer consumption habits.

We cannot stay behind when everything around us is changing. A ship will wind up going nowhere if it has no idea where it is headed. All we need to do is make sure we don't become like a ship without a course. To ensure that we meet the high standard, we must perform this task well. The industry will expand in this way, and the only way we can get there is by consciously trying to generate high-quality.
