The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has projected that the current scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, may persist for an additional two weeks.

The Public Relations Officer of IPMAN, Chinedu Ukadike stated this on Sunday, April 28, 2024, while reacting to the lingering scarcity of the product as it spreads to many states.

Chinedu Ukadike attributed the shortage to difficulties in sourcing the product, as most refineries in Europe are undergoing maintenance.

He emphasized that disruptions in the international supply chain impact domestic availability, as Nigeria largely depends on imports.

Ukadike also cited importation bottlenecks and delays in license renewals by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) as contributing factors to the acute scarcity.

The situation has led to transportation disruptions in major cities like Abuja and Lagos, with some fuel stations shutting down and others accused of hoarding the product, resulting in long queues at stations that remain open.
