National Cathedral: It's a worthy cause, but I'm not going to contribute anything – Nigel Gaisie

The National Cathedral is a noble notion, but it is a misguided priority, and I will not contribute to it in any way, Prophet Nigel Gaisie, the General Overseer of the Prophet Hill Chapel, has declared.

His remarks came after the Finance Ministry directed the disbursement of GH25 million in seed money for the project.

On Adom FM's morning show Dwaso Nsem Friday, he claimed the timing is off since the government should have used the money to fix the economy, which he described as "ailing."

"I believe it is a good idea, but the timing is off." And even the location is incorrect. They may have even moved it to Dodowa, Shai Hill, and other nearby sites.

People in our country are hungry, and we need money to address the catastrophe we've created, not a National Cathedral," he said.

The Methodist Church in Ghana has donated GH100,000 to the construction of the National Cathedral.

According to him, if the President had vowed to build the National Cathedral for the glory of God, he might have done so with his own money rather than taxpayer money.

According to a letter circulating and signed by the Finance Minister, the Government of Ghana, led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has granted the National Cathedral Secretariat the release of GH25 million as extra seed money for the construction of the National Cathedral.

According to a letter signed by the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, to the Controller and Accountant's General, the money was to be credited to RIBADE Limited for part payment of outstanding claims.

The Minority, on the other hand, has reacted to this letter. In a press conference, Minority Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the letter caught them off guard, especially since the cathedral was not included in the 2022 budget.
