Minority to summon Finance Minister over Utilizations of Gh¢827.60 Million of Petroleum Revenue

The Minority in Ghana's Parliament has fumed over the 2020 Annual Report on the utilisation of Gh¢827.60 million of the petroleum revenue.

The Minority through its ranking member on finance Ato Forson is expected to summon the minister responsible for finance to appear before parliament on the utilisation of Gh¢827.60 million of the petroleum revenue.

The Minister's summon followed the finance committee's report on the Annual Report of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) on the management of petroleum revenues for the year 2020 which was presented by the finance committee chairman, Kwaku Kwarteng on the floor of parliament.

Contributing to the adoption of the committee's report Dr Ato Forson stated that, a total amount of Gh¢827.60 million of the unspent Annual Budget Funding Amount(ABFA )was utilized to partially meet the shortfalls in ABFA receipt is caused by the impact of COVID- 19 and its associated effects on crude oil price globally and also an outstanding projects under ABFA were completed in 2020 which such funds were utilized.

"In view of this the minority needs a proper account and how the money was accredited by the finance minister" he stressed.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the committee, Kwaku Kwarteng asked the Minority to take it cool, since its an issue considered to be well understood.

In other news, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has said the Police do not have any business in arresting Madina Constituency MP, Francis-Xavier Sosu if they really want to go ahead to proceed with the matter.

According to him, the police should make available a criminal summon and serve the lawmaker.
 
The Police are seeking to arrest the lawmaker for allegedly partaking in a violent protest in his constituencies.

The legislator and a legal practitioner believe, once the Police take his advice, Francis-Xavier Sosu will not have any option other than to present himself to them, he revealed.
