Let's Fix Ghana by Planting Trees - Oti Regional Minister
Tree planting exercise in the Volta Region

The Oti Regional minister, Honorable Joshua Makubu has urged the youth in the country to leave social media and continue the legacy of tree planting in order to bring back the green society Ghana had some years back.

He said this on Friday, 11th June 2021 at Dambai in the Oti regional capital during the launching ceremony which took place on the Dambai College of Education campus attended by representatives from the Forestry Commission in Accra and all the workers of the Oti regional coordinating council.

Also inclusive were chiefs, the former Municipal Chief Executive of Krachi-East, Honorable Patrick Charity Jilima, and Municipal Heads of department of the Krachi East Municipal Assembly, workers of forestry commission in the region, and people from far and near including students.

According to Honorable Joshua Makubu, trees play a key role in the lives of humans including the improved air quality by intercepting and trapping dust and other pollutants from the air and it is necessary for Ghanaians to replace every lost one to keep the human race active.

"It is said that, when the last tree dies, the last man also dies," Honorable Joshua Makubu made known.

"It is on this basis I want to take this opportunity to entreat everybody to take part in the green Ghana project so that we can all save our lives. We have sat on furniture which is made from trees but we don't replant them for the next generation which is bad," he asserted.

He also charged the chiefs not to encourage deforestation yet in case it happens for a reason, they must intervene and replace them calling for perpetrators to face the laws.

The Oti Regional director of the Forestry commission, Mr. Dickson revealed that the Oti region was presented with one hundred and fifty thousand seedlings. He added that the seedlings are free of charge thereby urging the general public to nurture the planted trees.

He was however optimistic the next generation will enjoy the benefit.
