A Sunyani based financial expert, Osei Kofi Emmanuel, has called on the New Patriotic Party government to consider appointing humble persons as Ministers of state, citing the late former Finance Minister, Kwadwo Baah Wiredu, as a typical example.

He noted that personalities with such humble demeanour would be able to contribute meaningfully to the accelerated development of the country.

"Persons with such calibre abound in the country and it will be appropriate for President Akufo Addo to consider appointing them as ministers instead of arrogant young politicians who only seek for their selfish interests", he stressed.

Prior to the 2020 general election, a number of Ghanaians expressed concerns about the arrogance of some ministers and cautioned that if care was not taken it could cause NPP’s defeat.

This truly reflected in the election results as the majority of ministers who doubled as Members of Parliament lost their seats.

This new development has resulted in the new trend in the legislature as the ruling party now has to cope in a parliament with the Speaker from the opposition party.

Political pundits have predicted doom for Akufo Addo’s second term in office, saying the change in the parliamentary set up could adversely affect his delivery.

The President is yet to make his ministerial appointments and the financial expert, Osei Kofi Emmanuel, has advised that lessons be taken from the first term to help build the new government.

"Nana Akufo Addo should appoint people who can define what it means to serve. Such calm and hardworking characters remind me of the late, Dr Baa Wiredu and Major Courage Quashigah.

"These were gallant men who worked behind the scenes for the success of the party and the progress of Ghana. There are more of such persons and I beseech the president to locate them," he added.
