Lionel Messi has admitted that Barcelona has not been fair to Luis Suarez in the manner the handled his exit from the club.

Suarez signed a two-year contract with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday and was bid farewell by the club on Thursday evening via a press conference.

Messi, who earlier through a burofax demanded to leave the Catalan club has been quiet on the incident and took to Instagram to express his concern.

The Argentine defined the 33-year old’s departure as ‘kicked out’, an action he believes shouldn’t have been applied to the Blaugranas third all-time scorer, with 198 goals in 283 games in all competitions.

“It will be strange to see you with another shirt and much more to face you,” Messi said on Instagram.

“You deserved the goodbye for what you are: one of the most important players in the club's history, achieving important things both as a group and individually.

“And not to get kicked out like they did. But the truth is that at this point nothing surprises me. I wish you all the best in this new challenge. I love you very much.”

Ronald Koeman has so far axed four players from Barcelona since his appointment to replace Quique Setien. Arturo Vidal left for Inter, Nelson Semedo has signed for Wolves, Ivan Rakitic earlier joined Sevilla and Luis Suarez for Atletico.

Suarez initially wanted to join Juventus but the time frame could not permit him to work on his EU passport which rescinded his decision and chose to remain in Spain.

Messi has entered the final year of his contract and will captain Barcelona for a third consecutive campaign. A decision as to whether he would extend his contract is yet to be decided as the season takes course.
