Mavin Records, a Nigerian record label, is looking for investment or sale

According to Billboard, the Universal Music Group, HYBE, and significant interest from music asset investors in the financial sector are bidding for Mavin Records, the Nigerian record label owned by Michael Collins, better known as Don Jazzy, and home to music stars like Rema, Ayra Starr, and Johnny Drille.

The label is also seeking investment or is considering a potential full sale.

According to Billboard, Mavin's value in the proposed acquisition is greater than $125 million and may range between $150 million and $200 million. It's not clear, though, whether the label controls music publishing or if that is covered under the agreement. According to additional reports, Shot Tower Capital is expressing interest in the transaction.

The action is anticipated to collect money to support the label's positioning for further expansion. Similar to how Latin and K-pop have recently had an impact on the worldwide marketplace, it is projected that the African continent will be the next geographical repertoire to have a dominant presence on the global arena.

Even if the investment comes from a strategic investor like UMG or HYBE, or if another music label or company completely acquires Mavin, the company's management team, led by renowned Nigerian music industry executive Don Jazzy, is expected to continue leading it and maintaining some level of influence over its future.

According to reports, HYBE is in the lead among prospective investors in the music industry, followed by UMG. It's important to note that several UMG divisions distribute the music of some of Mavin's well-known musicians in the United States.

For instance, Virgin, a separate division of UMG, distributed Rema's popular song "Calm Down," which peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100 and is still charting in the top 10 after 56 weeks. Additionally, Rema and Selena Gomez's remix of this song is licensed to Interscope, and other Mavin artists might be affiliated with Republic given that Mavin is mentioned under that label in Luminate.
