Marco Van Basten has criticized Manchester United for failing to utilize the talent of Donny van de Beek since his £39 million fees from Ajax.

The Dutch legend believes the player was in a haste and should have accessed possible chances of enjoying many minutes under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before signing the deal.

The 23-year old has played for the Red Devils twice and is yet to make his full debut in a game. He has scored once in his first game when the Red Devils were trailing by 2-0 against Crystal Palace. The Dutchman was introduced for Pogba in the 67-minute and in 13 minutes’ time, he scored United’s consolation, in a game which ended 3-1 for the Eagles at Old Trafford.

The former Ajax midfielder was an unused substitute last week against Chelsea. He watched from the bench as United failed to influence the game with the lack of an imaginative midfielder to stimulate the central department for an opportunity.

Van Basten says that the United call was too early for the young player.

“It is very bad for such a boy to only play six or seven times in a year,” Van Basten told Ziggo Sport

“That's terrible for your rhythm! You can earn a lot more, but you also have to see where you can play.

“Is it about a five-year contract that he can sign? No, that's b*******. Then you shouldn't go to Manchester United but wait with it or for another club. You have to want to play football every week, and such a club is then bad for your career.”

Van De Beek’s agent has already publicized that his client worked towards a move to Real Madrid last season but Ajax halted the deal and waited for another more year due to the departures of De Ligt and Frenkie De Jong.

He spoke that had it not been the coronavirus which affected club’s finances and paused Madrid from making purchases, his the Manchester United player would have become a Madridista.

"Last year, we had already worked towards a move to Real Madrid, but Ajax were against it after the departures of Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt," he told a Dutch podcast.
