Ofori Amponsah has made a rallying cry for all artistes to start rejecting award schemes that don't give money.

According to him, plaques are no longer valuable in the music industry and should only be used as a form of recognition instead of being the major reward handed out at the awards.

He explained that award schemes are guilty of cheating artistes because they obtain sponsorship majorly because of the artistes that will attend the shows.

He reasoned that if the award organisers are earning money based on the attendance of the music stars then they should be able to give the artistes part of the money instead of useless plaques.

Ofori Amponsah stated that artistes should endeavour to start boycotting award schemes if the change is not made while speaking in an interview with Accra-based Adom FM.

He alleged that just receiving awards has made musicians in ghana impoverished as awards alone won't pay the bills.

The artiste maintained that people can no longer be getting rich off artistes without giving anything back.

“For me if someone calls me for an award and he/she does not give me money I won’t go. If they won’t give me anything valuable I won’t go. I past receiving plaques. I have decided and I’m calling on all my colleagues to do same or else they are the same people who will laugh at us in future."

"It’s because of the musicians the people come to fill the venue. It’s because of the musician that the sponsorship comes through. If there is a programme and they can give out a house as the price, then why can’t they do the same for artistes?”

He concluded that he has since taken a stance on the issue, and is now calling on his colleagues to do the same.
