The former president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has paid a courtesy call to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in Kumasi on Wednesday, August 26, 2020.

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was with his running mate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang at the Manhyia Palace as they were welcome by the Asantehene at a durbar.

John Mahama addressed that as customs demand, it is necessary that he officially present his candidate for vice president when he is victorious in the upcoming elections to the ruler of the Asante Kingdom.

He reflected on the infrastructures undertaken during his term in the Ashanti Region and blamed the incumbent government for failing to live up to their promises,which has left growth stagnant.

 

 

The 61 year old promised to leave no stone unturned when he is voted and called for support from Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

“I used to pay a visit to the Asantehene during my time as a president to digest in a few matters of concern for the progress of Asanteman,” he revealed.

“There are a lot of infrastructures we (NDC) put up like schools, cocoa roads, hospitals, the Kejetia market, and many others, not forgetting the Kumasi Airport renovation exercise. There are a lot we could not complete before I lost power.

 

 

“We held a sod-cutting ceremony for the Airport phase II where you (Otumfuo Osei Tutu II) assigned one of your chiefs to represent you. If the current government had continue working on the project, things would have been better at the Kumasi Airport.

“Things have indeed been left behind in the Region under the Akufo Addo government but I am purposely here to show you my running mate, Professor NaaNa Opoku Agyemang elected by the council of elders and the national executive council,” he added.

The running mate of the NDC Flagbearer, Prof. Naana Opoku Agyemang defined her role and how demanding it is to seek for guidance from the Asantehene.

 

 

The former minister of Education petitioned Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to influence the country with his position as the Asantehene to promote peace and solidarity in the upcoming elections.

“It is needful for me to officially present myself to the Asantehene as the running mate of the NDC. I come with a request of blessing, advice and counselling.

 

 

“I ve held lots of offices but this is a unique one which demands much of guardian like the Otumfuo to straighten me for Ghana’s benefit,” she pleaded.

“The job demands a lot but two are better than one. We pray for peace in this country, that is our greatest message.”
