The Chairman of Racecourse Project, Kwabena Frimpong aka MK has assured that evacuated central market traders will be presented with their lockable shops in less than two weeks’ time.

According to him, 1,101 out of 1480 shops are almost ready for trade yet they are holding on to finish the remaining 379 to be able to hand over the shops to owners without partiality.

“So far the job is almost completed,” he said.

“We are left with the painting but all will be done in no time including the roofing. Within two weeks, the project will be completed for the traders to move in.

"The lockable shops are 1480. We are done with 1101 remaining 379 and soon everyone will receive their shops.”

Central Market traders were evacuated from their trading grounds to pave way for the phase 2 of the project. The Kumasi racecourse was identified as the new venue created to accommodate most traders yet its fittingness for trade was questioned by lockable store owners.

The ongoing project is near completion and according to MK, all the promises made and the patience of traders has paid off for the structuring of the stores for trade. He told Soireenews correspondent, Isaac Owusu that their greatest challenge is the deplorable road network at racecourse which needs a face-lift.

The Project manager revealed that assurances have been received from the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah and the Minister for Minister for Works and Housing, Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye to revamp roads on the grounds.

Deplorable road

“The road has been a challenge for the past years and during our time, we have put in efforts to get it done. Assurances have been received that by next month, the road will begin. Honourable Asenso Boakye has visited the site twice and is eagerly working on it.

“The Regional Minister is heavily involved and after visiting the site to see what we have established, he is impressed with the efforts and has assured that come what may, he will work on the roads.”

The Director of Operations of the Racecourse Project, Otuo Acheampong asserted that most of the shops are ready for business and in order to be fair in their dealings, they prefer to be completely done before moving all registered lockable shop owners from Central Market to the venue.
