The Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay has sparked an intellectual debate by questioning the idea that a musician's success should be determined by their Grammy award.

Let Ghanaian musicians breathe; Bob Marley and Tupac never earned Grammys - Wendy Shay

Wendy Shay encouraged Ghanaians to lower their expectations despite acknowledging the importance of Grammy awards and pointing out that singers have an impact that extends beyond accolades.

"I think our Ghanaian brothers should have reasonable expectations for themselves since they see this as a global cup when they hear about anything like this. I believe that music transcends all of these things. I do not minimize the fact that the Grammy is the greatest music honor.

In a recent interview with Giovanni Caleb on Showbiz 360, she stated, "It is good to be recognized. I mean, we will be happy if one day God willing we should win, but that should not be the end of the world if it happens."

The Uber driver also emphasised the importance of putting the influence of an artist's work on people's lives ahead of private memorials.

Wendy Shay brought out the fact that although iconic performers like Bob Marley and Tupac never received Grammy awards, they made a lasting impression on music history.

"In my opinion, the fact that Bob Marley and Tupac, two of the greatest musicians to have ever lived, did not win Grammy awards suggests that this should not be the standard." All I'm trying to say is that it shouldn't be used to gauge a musician's success.

"The only nourishment for the soul is music, due to its immense power." The ultimate goal, she added, is to make even one soul happy.

Rex Omar, a seasoned Highlife performer, has been voicing similar views over the ongoing problem. Rex Omar also mentioned in a recent interview with Cape Coast's on Property FM that while some highly renowned musicians had not won Grammy Awards, their value as musicians still stood.
