Laboratory Health Workers have pulled out of the Nationwide strike embarked by the Health Service Workers Union of Ghana on Tuesday which has affected the operations of government hospitals in the country.

The strike which started on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, was directed in a circular form issued by the Chairman of the Council, Dr Shiraz Issahaku, asking all health professionals to embark on a sit-down strike until the Central government accept to treat them fairly.

The strike has affected the out-patients departments because patients were stranded at the government’s health facilities across the country.

Soireenews Abdul Sammed Gurundari visited some major government hospitals in Tamale and at the Tamale West Hospital, the nurses at the OPD were met sitting without attending to the patients and the door red bands were tied.

Moving around the units of the hospital all the departments were not operating except the laboratory unit which at about 10 am on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, attended to about 50 patients.

It was where Soireenews met the National President of Medical Laboratory Professional Workers' Union Mr Lawrence, who said as their Union has pulled out of the strike and are actively working.

“Our members are working across the country and we are not part of the strike, as you can see I'm at work with my colleagues and the same is replicated all over Ghana,” he said.

The strike has affected the Tamale Central hospital and the Tamale Teaching hospital in the Northern region.
