Kumawood doesn't need factions, according to Azigi

Azigi, a Kumawood actor, is pleading with the industry's producers and directors to avoid fostering rivalries among the cast members.

Kumawood doesn't need factions, according to Azigi

He contends that talented actors should be chosen for the roles they can handle, not only because the director or producer likes them.

"The issue is with the producers and directors because some of them have go-to people they always want to collaborate with. There are times when you read a script and it is clear who would be the best fit for a certain part, but the casting director has their own people and will only use them. The producer may bring in roughly five of his preferred actors in addition to the director's 20 or so go-to actors.

"These divisions have been created by the directors. Sometimes a producer will want you to be in his production, but the director won't let you because you don't belong to his team. Additionally, some actors exhibit some bias. "When directors call them, they want to include their close friends in the production even if they are unable to play the role, and this is not good for the industry's growth," he said.

Azigi noted that the Ghanaian film industry has advanced significantly, thus participants in the sector should put in significant effort to successfully compete on a worldwide scale.

"We always compare ourselves to Nigerians, saying that they are far advanced while we are only passing the time, but we must realize that they have effective structures supporting their cause.

"Can we say the same here? When casting directors and producers choose actors for parts, do they do so purely on the basis of friendship rather than talent? How can we advance if we have such a mentality? He declared.
