Klopp says his team not good enough after a sixth league defeat

Fulham’s 1-0 win at Anfield was only the fifth time in Premier League history a newly-promoted side has beaten the reigning champions away from home.

Jurgen Klopp defined Liverpool’s performance against Fulham as “not good enough” after the Reds sixth home defeat in the Premier League.

Fulham defeated Klopp’s side by a goal to nil following seven changes to his side that lost against Chelsea last Thursday with Fabinho, Mane, Firmino, Trent Arnold Alexander and Robertson all dropping to the bench. Lemina’s drilled low shot from a corner at the dying minute of the first half gave the visitors the lead in the first half but Klopp’s side failed to come out with a solution to grab a point in the game.

The manager told after the game that his side was not at their best on the day.

“We conceded a goal, didn’t score, lost the game.

“We started okay. We had some moments but didn’t use them. They had their moments behind our last line.

“We conceded a goal in the moment we didn’t expect it just before half-time.

“We got used to each other and played some good stuff, created chances, didn’t score and the longer the game goes on in our situation it is not that you get stronger, it gets lesser and that it how it was.”

A sixth consecutive home league defeat for Liverpool drops them to eighth on 43 points with the top four almost out of reach for the Premier League Champions. The manager expressed that he no longer thinks about catching up for a top-four place but is more interested in how his side will win a League match.

“We don’t have the mentality we are used to but the boys want to win games and I saw that today. We still made mistakes and that’s the problem.

“We have to make sure the mistakes we make are not accountable. We have to make sure we win a game again. If it is 1-0 that is fine.

“It [the top four] is really not my concern at the moment. I cannot think about that. We have to win a football game. We have to win one football game, that would be helpful already.”
