Kintampo Chiefs to government: Unemployment is the cause of drug abuse in the Bono East region

Unemployment rates remain a big concern for the country, but Kintampo leaders say that this contributes to the reason of drug misuse in the Bono East region.

They added that many young individuals consume drugs as a result of their feelings of unemployment and frustration.

They stated that the dissatisfaction of highly qualified graduates not being able to find work after graduation, as well as the country's general economic predicament, had resulted in worrisome drug misuse rates in the Bono East region.

Nana Owusu Pinkrah II Kintampo Kontihene expressed concern that the issue was on the rise among the youth, particularly students, and that it harmed their health.

Nana Pinkrah encouraged the government and other stakeholders, including the Bono East Regional Minister, to provide jobs in order to put an end to the scourge.

Nana Effah Guakro, Kintampo Kyeremankomahene, on the other hand, warned against such abuse and encouraged people to take care of their mental health.

He also advised Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to make effective use of social media. Instead of wasting time on undesirable activities, he believes that social media serves a vital purpose for studies and research.

One of the Youth Activists in the Libir Joseph popularly known as "Stone" warned the youth in the Bono East region against the use of illicit and performance enhancing drugs, saying that misuse and authorized use of drugs could have negative health consequences, including mental illness.

Stone urged the youth to refrain from doing drugs in their communities with their peers.

He urged all stakeholders to join the country's anti-drug effort in order to keep the youth healthy and encourage them to contribute to the country's rapid growth.
