In Nigeria, a video has surfaced that seems to show an armed group holding some of the hostages who were taken prisoner from a train in March.

The hostages may be seen being flogged by the gunman in the footage, which the BBC has not independently authenticated.

They are mostly men. You can hear some mothers pleading with the international community to assist in securing their release while they were protecting their children from the beatings.

The Nigerian government claims to be against paying ransoms, but according to journalists, criminal groups have amassed enormous sums of money recently from the numerous kidnapping incidents.
