Kenya's youngest woman MP accused of nepotism

Linet Chepkorir, a Kenyan county MP who was elected last year at the age of 24, is currently in court on charges that she hired six members of her family, according to local media.

She is being charged with nepotism for reportedly employing six of her relatives as office assistants in the Bomet County she represents.

Her accusers, county citizens Collins Barno and Stanley Kiprotich Bii, claim that the hiring procedure lacked openness, fair competition, merit, and honesty.

According to them, the suspected relatives receive 75% of the entire compensation paid to the office's 15 employees.

The petitioners ask the court to overturn the appointments because they claim they established a poor precedent for a public institution because they were made illegally, irregularly, and for partisan reasons.

The MP has not yet addressed the allegations.
