Kenya plans nationwide electric-car charging stations

Kenya Power, a power utility company, has announced intentions to create an infrastructure that will allow electric vehicle charging throughout the nation.

In Nairobi, the nation's capital, a six-month trial phase is anticipated to begin in September. Within two years, other significant towns throughout the nation will follow.

Kenya has seen a slow uptake of electric vehicles, in part because there aren't enough public and commercial charging stations.

According to the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, only 350 of the estimated 2.2 million registered vehicles in the nation are electric (Epra).

By 2025, the government wants to boost the proportion of electric vehicles to 5 percent of all vehicle imports.
